Who’s behind it
Thousands of system tests. One lesson worth keeping.
I’ve been researching, trading, investing and studying the gold, silver and copper markets since 2018. My roots are in swing trading; I fell in love with the idea that a clean process could buy back my time. For most people it doesn’t work out that way. For a long time, it didn’t work out for me either.
I spent years designing and automating systems for gold and silver (plus forex, indices, bonds, oil and crypto) and ran thousands of system-level tests on the way to a working portfolio of daily-chart algorithms.
The project ultimately broke on two unglamorous truths: pure trading requires capital most retail investors don’t have without dangerous leverage, and the handful of ‘unsolvable’ automation errors that I battled on a daily basis.
What survived was the skill underneath the project — a sharp, objective sense for what works on a chart and what doesn’t. The single biggest lesson: indicators that bleed on a daily timeframe often dominate on the weekly and especially the monthly. Technical analysis, zoomed out, starts being an investing edge for timing entries, managing risk and liquidating mature positions. And the once-per-month cadence allows me to pursue other important goals and interests.
In parallel, I went deep on the metals themselves. A 2019 research paper on gold’s role in an equity portfolio pulled me into the asymmetric supply-demand dynamics of silver and copper, and I started DCA’ing into silver soon after. Over time my focus shifted fully from trading into investing across the entire risk spectrum. I have experience investing in physical, ETCs, ETFs and single-name miners with a real structural edge.
The Refinery is the product of my experience and represents the same process I run on my own capital, refined, documented and made objective enough to hand to someone else.
